Helios 4 NAS – Worlds First Open Source Personal Cloud 2017

Helios 4 is a network attached storage Or NAS. It is basically a single board computer with 4 hard drives attached to it to store and share data. This way, you can create a personal cloud, where you can store your Photos, Songs , and Movies by connecting it to your Home network.

Specs

Now coming to the specs, this single board computer is powered by Marvel Armada 388 SOC, the Dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU clocked at 1.8 Ghz which provides the best level of performance for NAS functionality. It have both 1 GB and 2 GB varient.

This is the the only ARM based board on the market that offers 4x SATA 3.0 ports and can provide us a maximum of 40 TB Data Storage Space. It also have 2 USB 3.0 Port, ultra high speed SD Card Interface, 2 PWM Fan Headers, ports to connect LCD screen & Control buttons and a mini USB Serial Console port.

OS

Currently, the OS available for Helios 4 is Armbian – a Lightweight Debian based distribution specialized for ARM developing boards.

 

OS Installation is pretty simple, all you have to do is download the image, burn it on to the micro SD card and insert it into your Helios 4.
