After the release of Ubuntu 17.10 on Oct 19 2017, they are working on the next version of Ubuntu – Ubuntu 18.04, with so many changes and new features.

Code name of the new ubuntu 18.04 was revealed by Mark Shuttleworth and is going to be called “Bionic Beaver”

Major Changes
GNOME Desktop Environment instead of Unity
In a blogpost Shuttleworth announced that they have ending their relationship with Unity8 and the desktop environment of next version of Ubuntu will be switched back to GNOME
I’m writing to let you know that we will end our investment in Unity8, the phone and convergence shell. We will shift our default Ubuntu desktop back to GNOME for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. – Shuttleworth

Release Date
The next version of Ubuntu ie Ubuntu 18.04 will be released somewhere around April 2018. This release was announced by shuttleworth on April 05 2017
