A few months back Kali Linux 2017.1 rolling was released and the popular distro came up with a set of significant updates and features which include Support for RTL8812AU Wireless Card Injection, Support for CUDA GPU Cracking, Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure Availability and much more. But after a survey, we found that there are some things lacking in this current version, something that hackers always wanted and some problems that the users can’t find answers of.

Below are the top 3 features users want in Kali Linux 2018

Better Driver Support

There is a smaller selection of peripheral hardware drivers (for printers, scanners, and other devices) in Kali Linux as compared to Windows. Even though many new Linux hardware drivers are constantly being added, support for older devices has stopped.

Similarly, in some laptops, Kali is not detecting inbuilt WiFi adapter. Users have to manually install and setup their WiFi network driver, which is a bit difficult for newbies.

IOT Hacking Tools

Kali linux is full of tools that are focused on exploiting web applications, wired and wireless networks. But Kali Linux 2017 is definitely missing some tools for hardware penetration testing. IoT is one of the world’s fastest growing technology. As IoT grows, the attack surface also grows and all the vulnerabilities present in the digital world will flow into our real world.

Currently Kali linux have tools that can intercept WiFi attack and some Bluetooth attacks. But these are not the only way devices communicate. Devices communicate to each other obeys protocols. Like for serial wired communication, it may use I2C, SPI, JTAG etc and for wireless RF communications like Bluetooth, Zigbee etc.

Recently an OS was released name Attify OS that had the tools that could help in intercepting data in various communication methods, dumping memory, performing DOS etc. Several IOT pen-testing frameworks like ‘HEATHEN’ has also been released. But people are getting frustrated installing these software one by one correcting dependency issues. So it would be nice if Kali 2018 could include hardware hacking tools.

Kali Linux Header Issue

Installing Kali linux Kernel Header is a matter of luck. While most of the people get it on the first try, some people even after following the right steps, it always ends up with “Unable to locate packages “. These users have to find a way to install manually, which is also difficult for new people who are not familier with Linux. I have I have noticed that Kali Linux doesn’t ship with the newest kernel and development tools, whereas OS like Parrot Security ships with a newer version of kernel.
